Hyderabad: Suspended BJP leader and MLA from Goshamahal seat in Hyderabad Raja Singh's wife has approached the High Court against his detention. Raja Singh has been detained by the Hyderabad Police under the 'Preventive Detention Act.' He has been arrested for allegedly making controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad. Now Raja Singh's wife has moved to the High Court, as well as seeking an urgent hearing in the matter. The high court has admitted the petition and it is likely to come up for hearing soon.

MLA Raja Singh's wife says that her husband has been kept in jail only to please a particular community. He said that there is no other reason why all this is being done only to appease a particular community. Raja Singh was sent to Cherlapally jail on August 25, 2022. Police say that Raja Singh has 101 criminal cases registered against him and 18 FIRs for spreading communal tension.

Raja Singh was arrested on the orders of the Hyderabad police commissioner. Hyderabad Police said they are accused of making habitual inflammatory and provocative speeches, raising fears of violence between two communities in the "peaceful atmosphere" of Telangana and Hyderabad. The police have also accused him of making a "very blasphemous statement" about Prophet Muhammad and his life. Earlier on August 23, Raja Singh was detained but then released after the court order.

An FIR has also been registered against Raja Singh at Dabirpura police station under several sections. The BJP had said his statement was against the party line. Let me tell you that MLA Raja Singh had released a video on YouTube, after which the police took action against him. Under the PD Act, the police get the right to detain a person only because it is likely to pose a threat to law and order, regardless of whether the person has committed a crime or not.
