Washington: The US Food and Drug Administration has given the Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna full approval (FDA). The vaccine, known as Spikevax, is approved for anyone aged 18 and over.

Spikevax complies with the FDA's stringent safety, efficacy, and manufacturing quality requirements, according to a statement from the source. "While millions of people have already received Covid-19 vaccinations successfully," stated Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, "we understand that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instil extra confidence to get vaccinated." "Today's achievement brings us closer to changing the path of the pandemic in the United States," she said.

The Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna is the second to achieve complete FDA approval in the United States. In August 2021, Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine, Comirnaty (RNA), received complete approval for use in people aged 16 and up.

Since December 18, 2020, the Covid-19 vaccination from Moderna has been available for anybody aged 18 and up under the FDA's emergency use authorisation.
