New Delhi: The Central government led by PM Narendra Modi has given a green signal to the Modernisation Scheme-IV for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). A total of Rs 1,523 crore will be spent by the Home Ministry under the guidance of Amit Shah from 2022 to March 31, 2026. The scheme will help CAPF to improve overall operational efficiency/preparedness. 

It will strengthen the government's capacity to deal with the challenges being faced along the International Border (LOC-LAC) as well as various theatres, such as the Left Wing Extremism affected areas, union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the militancy-hit northeastern regions. The CAPF is a major paramilitary force of India and the world's largest border guarding force. It was formed on December 1, 1965. 

The CAPF's responsibility is to keep a constant watch on India's international borders during times of peace, protect India's land border and prevent international crime. At present, the Border Security Force (BSF) has 188 battalions and guards the 6,385.36 km long international border, which extends to holy, inaccessible deserts, river valleys and snow-capped regions.
