New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre may now decide to increase OBC reservation. The Central government on Thursday told the Supreme Court that it is going to increase the limit for creamy layers. At present, the creamy layer limit is 8 lakh, but now the government is going to increase it. A major decision on this will be taken within four weeks.

The Centre told the court that it was now going to replace the economically weaker sections of the criteria. Till now, a candidate whose family income was less than 8 lakh a year was kept in EWS. But now this is where there will be a big change. The government is going to increase this eight lakh limit. The central government can take a decision on it within four months. With the implementation of this decision, a large section will benefit and everyone will get equal opportunities. It is not yet said how much the government is going to change this creamy layer. But some people are demanding up to 12 lakh while some want to implement the 10 lakh criteria.

Now where the government leans, it will be clear within four weeks. The Centre has taken several steps in this direction in the past. Earlier, a Committee was constituted which was studying in-depth the fact that why Government vacancies belonging to SC, ST, OBC, Divyang category are not being filled up, suggestions in this regard were also sought from the Committee. It was agreed to change the creamy layer on the basis of those suggestions. Now the Centre has also made its policy clear in the Supreme Court.
