The Union Home Ministry has also demanded Rs 3,941 crore from the Cabinet for this. The objective of NPR is to create a comprehensive identity database of common residents of the country. This data will also include biometric details along with demographics. However, like CAA and NRC, non-BJP ruled states are also opposing NPR and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is at the forefront.
