New Delhi: The Modi government at the Center has issued a 15-point guideline to curb idol immersion in the Ganges and its tributaries on other festivals including Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath and Saraswati Puja. According to the English newspaper The Indian Express, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has issued these guidelines to the chief secretaries of 11 states.

According to this guideline, a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed for the immersion of idol in Ganga or its tributaries. This guideline has been issued after a meeting between NMCG officials and representatives of the states last month. It states that "No statue will be immersed in the Ganges river or its tributaries or on its banks." The Indian Express has quoted sources as saying that Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar in a meeting with NMCG officials, Representatives of Jharkhand and West Bengal were present.

Along with these states, this guideline has also been issued to New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Rajasthan. Giving information to the Indian Express, the sources said that the respective states have been asked to strictly enforce rules against the immersion of idols in the Ganga and its tributaries and the flow of worship material.
