Srinagar: After the abolition of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir and restructuring the state as 2 union territories, now the central government started preparations to open temples that had been closed for years in the valley. Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy said on Monday that the government is conducting a survey of the closed temples in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to the media, Minister of State for Home Reddy said, 'We have constituted a committee for survey of closed schools in Kashmir Valley and they will be reopened. In the last few years, some 50 thousand temples have been closed, some of which have been destroyed and the statues broken. We have issued an order to conduct a survey of such temples.

After the beginning of the period of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in the 90s, millions of Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee from the valley. The terrorists massacred Kashmiri Pandits and damaged many temples as well. Many temples in the state were closed after the Pandits fled. There are many famous temples among them. Now the government is preparing to open all the temples along with settling Kashmiri Pandits in the valley.
