Guwahati: On the one hand, in Assam, where they plan to shut down the madrasas are being prepared, the same central government is engaged in finalizing the plan to teach mythological and religious texts in some madrasas. Under this, the education of Gita and Ramayana will also be given in madrasas of the country. For this, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has decided to provide necessary facilities for teaching Gita and Ramayana in hundred madrasas of the country.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) has advocated for giving information about India's ancient knowledge and heritage to children, under which NIOS has included it in the curriculum. NIOS is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Education. NIOS has prepared a basic course of Gita and Ramayana for the children of classes three, five, and eight studying in madrasas under its scheme. Giving information, Chairman of NIOS Saroj Sharma said that at present we have planned to implement it in 100 madrasas, but soon we will start it in 500 madrasas of the country.

NIOS has prepared 15 courses under Indian public tradition. Among them, Vedas, Yoga, Science, Vocational Skill, Sanskrit Language, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, and Panini-propounded Maheshwara Sutras are prominent. This syllabus is the same as classes 3, 5, and 8 for primary education.
