New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre is gearing up ahead of next year's proposed assembly elections in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab. There are indications from the Central government that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be legalised. Several senior BJP leaders themselves had suggested this to the party high command in this regard.

According to sources, the central government has started preparations for the law. It may be recalled that farmers have been agitating on the Delhi border for the past 10 months over three agricultural laws brought by the Central Government. Farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab have been agitating for the past 10 months over the three agricultural laws of the Central Government. Assembly elections are proposed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab till March 2022.

After that, assembly elections are also scheduled to be held in Gujarat. BJP farmer leaders have already briefed the high command about the inputs from farmers on agricultural laws. The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh belonging to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also advocated the enactment of a guarantee law on MSP. Meanwhile, there are indications from the central government to legalize the MSP.
