New Delhi: The Central government on Saturday announced several other facilities including pension to dependents of those who lost their lives due to corona infection. A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said that apart from pension for dependents, the government will ensure insurance compensation for corona affected families.

The pension coverage under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Scheme has been extended by the Government to all registered dependents who have died due to corona infection. It has also reiterated the announcement of expansion of insurance benefits under the Employees' Deposit-Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme for members registered under Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). ESIC benefits under pension scheme are also being extended to those who have died due to covid.

All dependent members of the family of such persons will be eligible for pension equal to 90% of the average daily salary received by the employee as per the existing rules. This benefit will be available from 24th March to 24th March, 2022 last year. The Labour Ministry is working on detailed guidelines on the scheme and is likely to be released today.
