Modi Govt to Make Another Push for Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha Today

PM Modi led government is all set to renew its push for the triple talaq bill in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, after a united opposition  made obstacles in the proceedings of winter session two days ago.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill is listed to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will move the bill in the House.

 Worth mention here It was passed by the Lok Sabha last week amid a walkout by the Opposition. The Bill makes all declarations of instant triple talaq void and unlawful. It seeks to make the practice a punishable offence with sentence of three years.

Rajya Sabha witnessed hue and cry over the bill on Monday as Congress-led opposition persisted with its demand that it should be referred to the Select Committee of the House for further scrutiny.

 

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Goel had stated the government is ready for discussion on the bill and urged to the House to pass it. He accused the grand old Congress party of obstructing justice for Muslim women by not allowing its passage.
