On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and planted a peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. He was accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena during the plantation event.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, marks the first day of the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. This year, the theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience," emphasizing the critical need to restore and preserve our land resources.

In other news, the Union Cabinet is scheduled to convene today around 11:30 am in Delhi. Later in the day, NDA leaders will gather at Prime Minister Modi's residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg for a meeting at 3:30 pm. Key leaders including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu are expected to attend this crucial NDA meeting.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc will also meet in the national capital around 6 pm today. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA and the Opposition INDIA bloc are strategizing their future political actions in these meetings.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election results were announced on Tuesday by the Election Commission of India. The BJP secured 240 seats, a significant drop from its 2019 tally of 303. In contrast, the Congress made significant gains, winning 99 seats. The INDIA bloc surpassed the 230-seat mark, posing strong competition and defying earlier predictions.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term, the BJP fell short by 32 seats of the 272 majority mark. For the first time since sweeping to power in 2014, the BJP did not secure a majority on its own. Therefore, the BJP will now need to collaborate with other parties within its coalition, such as JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP's chief Chandrababu Naidu, to form the government.
