NEW DELHI: Commencing on July 20, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will be underway. This significant session is scheduled to extend until August 11.
In a recent tweet, Joshi emphasized, "Mark your calendars for the Monsoon Session, 2023! From July 20th to August 11th, Parliament will be abuzz with productive discussions on Legislative Business and other important matters." The session will comprise a total of 17 sittings, spanning across 23 days.
Joshi further appealed to all parties to actively engage in constructive contributions towards legislative and other parliamentary affairs during this session. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on May 28, adding grandeur to the proceedings.
Anticipated to have a robust legislative agenda, the government is prepared for the session's challenges. Opposition parties, on the other hand, are gearing up to confront the government on a wide array of critical issues.
During the upcoming session, it is expected that the government will present a bill aimed at replacing the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance.
This particular Ordinance effectively invalidated a judgment made by the Supreme Court, which had granted the Delhi government enhanced legislative and administrative authority in matters concerning "services."
Furthermore, the Union Cabinet has given its approval to the National Research Foundation Bill, which is also anticipated to be introduced during this session. The proposed foundation is set to serve as a fresh funding agency, strengthening the nation's research capabilities in the fields of science and technology.
