Monsoon session of Parliament begins today, opposition set to corner Modi government

New Delhi: In the monsoon session beginning today, the opposition government is set to corner the government on a number of issues including the corona epidemic, farmers' opposition to agricultural laws, fuel price hike and vaccination strategy. A Lok Sabha release said the sixth session of the 17th Lok Sabha will begin on July 19. The session is likely to end on August 13 in view of the urgency of government business.

A press release of the Upper House said that President Ram Nath Kovind has convened a meeting of the House on July 19 and the session will continue till August 13. This will be the first session of Parliament after the results of assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Last year the monsoon session began in September and the winter session was not held due to corona epidemic.

According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, 31 government business, including 29 bills and 2 financial items, will be considered during the 19 meetings of the monsoon session. Six bills will be introduced in place of ordinances. The Lower House will meet from 11 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. The Speaker has also alternately allotted days to answer questions on behalf of ministers.
