USA: A technology developed by Jeff Bezos' private aerospace company Blue Origin uses simulated lunar regolith to create solar cells and transmission wires. The resulting solar cells are said to endure for more than ten years and withstand the "harsh lunar environment.

" It's interesting that there are no water, toxic chemicals, or carbon emissions produced during the process.

The technology developed by Blue Origin might be crucial for long-term lunar exploration. Electric power is required to sustain a long-term presence on the Moon, and the company's technology could be revolutionary in that regard.

Importantly, their method does away with the need to ship expensive resources from Earth by producing solar cells directly from the material found on the Moon.

The business employs a procedure called Blue Alchemist that makes use of imitators that are chemically and minerally similar to regolith that is found on the surface of the Moon. Iron, silicon, and aluminum are separated from the oxygen moieties to which they are bound in a reactor using a process known as molten regolith electrolysis, which involves the passage of an electric current.

According to the procedure, silicon is purified to "more than 99.999%." This degree of purity is necessary to produce effective solar cells. Conventional silicon purification techniques on Earth involve the use of significant quantities of explosive and toxic chemicals.

Contrarily, Blue Alchemist only makes use of silicon that is obtained through the purification process in the reactor and sunlight.

For solar cells to survive in the harsh lunar environment, a cover glass is necessary. The solar cells would only function for a few days without the cover glass. The business manufactures the protective cover glass using byproducts from the electrolysis of molten regolith. This is said to give solar cells a ten-year lifespan.

NASA recently awarded Blue Origin a contract for the ESCAPADE mission, which stands for Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers. The company's New Glenn heavy-lift rocket, which is intended to compete with SpaceX's Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets, will be used to launch the mission, which is aimed at Mars. The orbital test flight for New Glenn may take place later this year even though it has not yet been tested.
