Ahmedabad: Jaysukh Patel of Oreva Group, accused in the case of a collapse of a suspension bridge in Morbi city of Gujarat in October 2022, has surrendered in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. In fact, a 1,262-page charge sheet has been filed in the 2022 Morbi Suspension Bridge collapse case. 134 people lost their lives in this accident. The name of Jaysukh Patel of Oreva Group has been included as an accused in the charge sheet.

The police filed the charge sheet last Friday. Advocate Dilip Agechania, appearing for the victims, said that nine accused have been arrested out of the charge sheet. Apart from the accused, the name of Jaysukh Patel, Managing Director of Oreva Group, was included as the 10th accused. A magistrate's court had already issued an arrest warrant against Patel. Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Oreva Group) was responsible for the operation and maintenance of this British-era suspension bridge built over the Machchu river in Morbi. This bridge collapsed on 30 October 2022, just a few days after the repair.

Deputy Superintendent of Police PS Zala filed the over 1,200-page charge sheet in the court of Morbi Chief Judicial Magistrate MJ Khan. Jala is the investigating officer of the case. Agechania had said that Jaysukh Patel of Oreva Group, whose name was not initially mentioned by the police in the FIR, was shown as the tenth accused in the charge sheet filed before the magistrate on Friday. Statements of more than 300 witnesses are recorded in the charge sheet of more than 1,200 pages. On October 31, a day after the bridge accident, Morbi police arrested 9 people including two managers of Oreva Group, and two ticket clerks.
