New Delhi: The Indian Navy has announced the recruitment of women sailors under the Agnipath Recruitment Scheme. As per official information, the registration process for Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) and Matric Recruit (MR) was concluded on Wednesday. During this period, the Indian Navy has received applications from more than 80,000 women candidates.  

This information has been given in a tweet from the official handle of the Indian Navy. The Tweet said "The process of registration under the Agnipath Scheme of SSR (Senior Secondary Recruit) and MR (MatricUlate) of the Indian Navy has been completed. A total of 9.55 lakh Agniveer applicants, including 82,000 women candidates, have registered. Although there are women officers in all three services (Army, Air Force and Navy), this will be the first time that the posts of Personnel Below Officer Rank (PBOR) will be open to women.

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, chief of personnel, while addressing a press conference at the Defence Ministry on Sunday, said, "We are still preparing the right number of women sailors to be recruited through the Agnipath scheme.'' The first batch of Agniveer will start in November this year. He said "The Indian Navy currently has 30 women officers sailing on various Indian Navy ships. We have decided that we will also recruit women under the Agnipath scheme. They will also be deployed on warships." From November 21 this year, the first naval 'Agniwar' training establishment will start arriving at INS Chilka, Odisha. In this, both the woman and the man can reach Agniveer, Odisha.
