India records warmest month January 2021 in 62 years, says IMD

New Delhi: January was warmest in South India. The Indian Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature recorded in January 2021 in the country has changed the temperature record of the last 62 years. This month was the hottest in the last 62 years. Giving information by the India Meteorological Department, it has been told that especially the southern part of the country was warmer.

This month was the hottest in 121 years in South India and the temperature was 22.33 degrees Celsius. The year 1919 was 22.14°C and in 2020 it was 21.93°C, which was the second and third warmest month. Central India had the hottest in 38 years after 1982 (14.92°C) (14.82°C) while 1958 was the hottest recorded between 1901 and 2021 with 15.06°C.

However, according to IMD, the maximum temperature in January was below normal. Taking the information of temperature between 1901 and 2021 and studying it shows that the average minimum temperature of the whole of India was 14.78 degrees Celsius in January 2021. According to the department, in the month of January 1958, there was a similar minimum temperature. January 1919 measured 15 degrees Celsius, the hottest January ever.
