Today is the death anniversary of the country's politician and lawyer Motilal Nehru, his father's name was Gangadhar Nehru and his mother's name was Indrani. The Nehru family had settled in Delhi for generations, and Gangadhar Nehru was a Kotwal in that city. During India's freedom struggle of 1857, Gangadhar left Delhi with his family and settled in Agra, where some of his relatives lived. Where there was an incident of robbery in the house of the Nehru family in Delhi. A few days after recovering from this accident, Gangadhar married both his daughters in a Kashmiri Brahmin family. Motilal Nehru was born 3 months after his father's death. When Motilal was born, his two elder brothers, Bansidhar Nehru and Nandlal Nehru, were 19 and 16 years old.

Since the family lost all its wealth in the turmoil of 1857, after which his mother moved to Amarnath, by that time his younger son had not started earning any money. After a few years, Nandlal took up the job of a clerk in the court of a king of Khetri and started helping his mother and brother. Motilal's elder brother Nandlal, with the support of Raja Fateh Singh of Khetri, rose to the rank of Diwan (chief minister; effectively manager). Nandlal sends Khetri to Agra and finds that his former career in Khetri informed him about the lawsuits. Thereafter he started practising law in the Provincial High Court at Agra. After which Motilal was sent to Allahabad for further studies with his family.

But, later on, Motilal Nehru left his advocacy and worked in India's freedom struggle. In 1923, he along with Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das broke away from the Congress party and laid the foundation of his Swaraj Party. In 1928, he was elected the President of the Congress session held in Kolkata. He also became the head of the Constitution Commission of India set up by Congress in 1928. The Nehru Report was submitted by this commission. Motilal Nehru built an Alishan house named Anand Bhawan in Allahabad. After this, he gave his old house Swaraj Bhavan to Congress. Motilal Nehru died in Allahabad in 1931.
