During the budget session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar passed a proposal to not implement the National Citizenship Register in the state. It also discussed about accepting the National Population Register in the year 2010 format. The BJP MLAs remained silent during the passage of the motion against NRC. Later many of them expressed their displeasure. On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav called it a victory of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

BJP leader and Agriculture Minister Prem Kumar, reacting to this reversal, said that there was no discussion with BJP before bringing the proposal. Janata Dal-United (JDU) should have told it before bringing this proposal. Bringing the proposal is the right of the Bihar government, but the BJP is with the Center. He said that the things that went on NPR are correct. We have no opposition to this but we were not taken into confidence on NRC. They said that they register their protest against this proposal of the government.

BJP leader and Minister Vinod Singh said it was a hasty decision. He objected to the format of the proposal. A decision will be taken on this issue only after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. BJP MLC Sanjay Paswan termed the resentment in the party as natural. Taking the middle path, he said that there is a government in Bihar headed by Nitish Kumar, so it has to be accepted. Wherever the BJP has a majority government, NRC will be implemented in its original format.
