NEW DELHI:  India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20 said that the Central government's Mudra Yojana is playing a crucial role in boosting employment and self-employment opportunities in the tourism sector.

Showing examples of shops,  guest houses, dhabas and homestays, the Prime Minister highlighted the loans up to Rs 10 lakh being provided to such entities without any guarantee. "38 crore Mudra loans have been given across India so far. About 8 crore youths have become entrepreneurs for the first time," Prime Minister said while addressing the Uttarakhand Rozgar Mela via video-conferencing.

Several youths of the state were handed over their appointment letters on the occasion. The PM also informed that the share of women and youth belonging to the SC, ST and OBC category is maximum under Mudra loans. The new National Education Policy prepares the youth of India for the new century, PMsaid. Highlighting the new experiments taking place in India in the educational sector, the PM noted that most appointees would be serving in the field of education. He also highlighted the constant endeavour of the central and Uttarakhand government that every youth gets new opportunities based on their interest while getting access to the right medium to move forward. He also said that the government services recruiting drive is also a step in the right direction.

The Prime Minister said, "The national government is focused on the young of Uttarakhand returning to their villages." Breaking free from the cliche that the water and youth of the mountains are useless to the mountains themselves was a priority for the prime minister. He also emphasised the brand-new employment and independent business chances emerging in the mountainous areas.

Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana is a scheme launched by the Prime Minister on April 8, 2015 for providing loans upto 10 lakh to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises. These loans are classified as MUDRA loans under PMMY.  Under the aegis of PMMY, MUDRA has created three products namely 'Shishu', 'Kishore' and 'Tarun' to signify the stage of growth and development and funding needs of the beneficiary micro entrepreneur and also provide a reference point for the next phase of graduation and  growth.
