New Delhi: Former Vice President Hamid Ansari on Wednesday criticised the country's democracy on the occasion of Republic Day, following union minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's reaction to Ansari's statement. He said the madness of bashing PM Narendra Modi is now gradually turning into a conspiracy to bash India.
The Union minister said, if someone comes to India cursing Modi, you can expect such voices, adding, "Those who used to take advantage of minority voters are now concerned about the current positive atmosphere in the country." While participating in the virtual panel discussion organised by the Indian American Muslim Council, Ansari had expressed concern over the rise in Hindu nationalism. "In recent years, we have experienced the emergence of trends and practices that dispute the well-established theory of civic nationalism.
He claimed, "He wants to present an electoral majority under the guise of a religious majority and a monopolistic political force. He seeks to isolate citizens based on their faith, promote intolerance, signal otherness and promote restlessness and insecurity.
