Mumbai busiest airport remain closed for 1.5 month

New Delhi: From February 7 to March 30, 2019, Mumbai airport's is to remain closed for three days in a week for maintenance and repair, it is main and secondary runway

. According to a Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) spokesperson, over 5,000 flights are expected to be cancelled or rescheduled.  The maintenance work on the runway will happen from 11 am to 5 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from February 7 to March 30, 2019. According to a CSIA official, the airport will operate full day on March 21, 2019.

Here worth to be noted that around 240 flights are expected to be cancelled daily and several international flights are likely to be rescheduled. During this period, passengers flying in and out of Mumbai will face difficulties because of cancellation and rescheduling of flights. Passengers are being advised to book their tickets in advances as fares are expected to shoot up as much as 80 per cent.

However airfares have already shot up. Mumbai to Delhi non-stop IndiGo flight ticket for February 8 was priced at over Rs 16,000 on Thursday. SpiceJet and Air India economy flight ticket for the same date was priced at over Rs 22,000 and Rs 19,000 respectively. The fares are expected to rise further in the coming days due to flight cancellations and rescheduling.

While worth mentioning here is that Mumbai Airport is one of India's busiest airports. On average, there are 950 arrivals and departures per day. Although there are two runways here, they are either used to fly or run for one runway at a time since they intersect each other.
