Lucknow: Sumaiya Rana, daughter of noted Urdu poet Munawwar Rana and leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has been placed under house arrest by the Lucknow police. According to information, Sumaiya was preparing to protest against the alleged controversial statement made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma about Prophet Mohammed.

It is being told that, she was to reach 1090 crossroads with 200 people to protest against the police action in Kanpur. Sumaiya has informed about the house arrest by tweeting herself. He tweeted that the police  have again made my house a cantonment today. At the same time, ADCP West Chiranjeev Nath Singh said that Sumaiya Rana was adamant on submitting a memorandum at 1090 crossroads with his supporters over the violence in Kanpur. They were asked to submit a memorandum at home. But he did not believe that he was detained inside the house.

In fact, violence broke out in Kanpur after Friday prayers over bjp leader Nupur Sharma's statement. During this time, there was also heavy stone pelting, bombs went off and several rounds of aerial firing also took place. After this, the atmosphere in the entire area became tense.
