Visakhapatnam: A shocking case has come to light from the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, where 100 stray dogs were poisoned to death. The bodies of the dogs were later buried in the ground near the Perantam tank in Lingapalem village of the district. According to reports, some pig breeders living near the parentum tank noticed that some people were digging pits and burying the carcasses of dogs. The dogs were caught from the village and its surrounding areas.

West Godavari district collector Kartikeya Mishra on Friday ordered an inquiry into the killing of stray dogs after the case was reported. According to Lingpalem Panchayat Secretary Suganraj, some locals informed him about burying the carcasses of stray dogs in a pit late at night. After which he rushed to Dharmajigudem police station to lodge a complaint.

He termed it as a cruel act and said that some villagers must have hired dog catchers to wipe out stray dogs.  Some puppies were also killed in the process. Fight for Animals activist Challapalli Srilata rejected the panchayat secretary's claim. He said stray dogs have been killed through hired dog catchers. Police have registered a case and will take further action after conducting a postmortem of the dogs today.
