Renowned music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer, as announced by Mamata Banerjee. Khan, aged 55, had been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in Kolkata. He was on ventilation and receiving oxygen support before his demise.

His health had taken a severe turn after suffering a cerebral attack last month. Initially seeking treatment at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Khan later chose to continue his medical care exclusively in Kolkata. Sources close to him mentioned a positive response to treatment since his admission to the private hospital. The team of doctors attending to him had been satisfied with the progress in his medical condition.

Mamata Banerjee shared the unfortunate news of the music maestro's passing, marking the end of a remarkable journey for the talented artist from the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana.

Khan, a member of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, is the great-grandson of its founder, Inayat Hussain Khan. He's a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and has been honored with the Padma Bhushan. Known for his melodious voice, he has rendered many popular songs in Bengali and Hindi movies like 'My Name is Khan,' 'Kadambari,' 'Manto,' and 'Mitin Mashi.' One of his most cherished works is the soul-stirring song 'Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna' from the film 'Jab We Met.'
