Kuwait: The Kuwaiti government has cancelled a yoga-related event, after which a large number of Muslim women have taken to the streets against Islamic fundamentalists. Women in this area ruled by the Sheikhs are fighting a kind of cultural war for their rights. Recently, a yoga teacher had advertised a yoga-related programme for women, after which the mullah-maulvi of Kuwait is calling it an insult to Islam. After this, the government cancelled the program of this 'Yoga Retreat.'

Yogasanas like Padmasana and Shvanasana are being described by some fundamentalists here as dangerous for Islam. There is outrage among women in Kuwait after the cancellation of the yoga camp programme. Kuwait's leaders also made statements against the yoga programme out of fear of mullah-clerics. Let me tell you that this Islamic country is dominated by men. The fundamentalists here are saying that women are attacking the culture of the country by doing all this. Najib Hayat, a women's rights activist in Kuwait, says the country is going backwards from these actions of the fundamentalists.

Among the women who protested outside Kuwait's parliament was Najiba Hayat. In Kuwait, women are not given more rights. Women from hardline Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq also have more rights than Kuwait. The first-ever 'Open Air Yoga Festival' was held in Saudi Arabia in January 2022. Alanoud Alsharekh, founder of the organization Ebalish 153 says that women are already angry here.
