In Uttar Pradesh, a case of beating a Muslim man for reading the Bhagavad Gita in Aligarh has come to light. It is alleged that a 55-year-old man was reading Gita in his house, which was beaten up by two youths of his own community.  The victim informed the police about the case, after which an investigation has been initiated. Police have registered a case in this regard.

According to sources, 55-year-old Dilesher from Aligarh was reading Bhagavad Gita in his home after returning from duty at around 9 a.m. on Thursday (4 july). It is alleged that Sameer, Zakir and a few other youths entered the house and took away Hindu books, Gita and Ramayana. A police official said That Dilsher worked as a security guard in a factory.

The victim said that he has been reading these religious books for the last 38 years. "I am a Muslim, but my religion does not prohibit other communities from reading sacred books," he said.

SP CT Abhishek said that the matter is under investigation and necessary action will be taken against the accused at the earliest. A case has been registered against the accused in Delhi Gate Police Station under Section 298 (injuring religious sentiments), 323 (killing and injuring), 452 (intrusion into the house with wrong motives), 504 (trying to disturb peace) and 506 (criminal acts) at Delhi Gate Police Station.
