Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism announced on Wednesday that it will resume foreign tourism early next year. The Ministry anticipates welcoming guests from regional countries in the initial phase of reviving tourism. The ministry needs to align their reopening plans, travel bubbles, or travel corridor programmes in this regard, according to the Ministry's Public Relations and Information Department.

"We are consulting with government authorities and private organisations to ensure that international visitors are methodically received when airports and crossings reopen," a department official said.

Following the report of the first two Covid-19 positive cases on March 23, last year, the country suspended operations of international commercial passenger flights, excluding relief, medical evacuation, and special flights, as well as the issuance of all types of visas for foreign nationals from all countries.

Land border crossings with Thailand will reopen next month, ahead of the restoration of international air travel by the end of the first quarter of 2022, according to a recent release from the Information Ministry. "We hope to restore international air travel in the first quarter of 2022," stated Minister of Information Maung Maung Ohn, "after our vaccine campaign hits targets and global infection rates drop."
