Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) AND Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD) are the hormonal disorders observed commonly among women belonging to the reproductive age group. The common symptoms include Irregular period, Weight gain, and Hair loss. In these days, the number of women getting affected by PCOD or PCOS increased drastically. Due to the lack of awareness, a lot of misconception has been created and is widespread among women. Misconceptions and the explanation are:

- As the symptoms include Irregular period, women who have an irregular period may not necessarily be affected with PCOD/PCOS there may be a lot of other reason like bad diet, breastfeeding or maybe a hormonal change. Women suffering from Uterus fibroid or Pelvic inflammatory condition may have an irregular period. Determining PCOD/PCOS based on the menstrual cycle is not advisable.

- Even though most of the PCOD/PCOS affected patients are overweighed; but the weight of the women has no role to play with it. People with normal weight or a lean person are also diagnosed with PCOD. The problem may happen due to androgen hormones or insulin resistance. Due to this, some people ignore the symptoms which cause trouble in future.

- Birth Control Pills will only reduce the symptoms and not the problem. It is not a permanent solution, first find the root cause and then get rid of it is the solution.

- Major misconception is a woman suffering from PCOD/PCOS can’t conceive. They may face a little difficulty while trying to conceive but it doesn’t mean that they can’t conceive. Embryo formation has a connection only with Ovulation, hormonal factors and egg quality. Things like proper exercise, sleeping on time, enough hydration, eating the right diet and managing stress levels can help in increasing the chances of getting pregnant.

- Losing weight is not a suitable solution to get rid of the disease rather lifestyle changes can bring better results. People should not be judgemental if any of the PCOD/PCOS symptoms are noted, rather has to visit a Gynaecologist.
