Finally, the political upheaval in Nagaland has come to a halt as newly appointed Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Friday won the crucial trust vote in the state assembly by the support 47 votes.

Zeliang took over the mantle after previous chief minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu was dismissed by governor P.B. Acharya, capping a rebellion in the ruling NPF he had spearheaded. Governor Acharya had directed the legislative Assembly Speaker to summon an emergency special session for the floor test.

Liezietsu, who is facing the rebellion by 43 Naga Peoples Front MLAs led by TR Zeliang demanding a change of leadership in the present house of 59, had filed the petition on July 14 seeking a stay on the governor's directive.  Earlier NPF working presidents Huska Yepthomi and Apong Pongener said, "He was adamant and has already planned to dismantle the NPF party,"

Zeliang, however, was unfazed saying he would continue to remain the NPF leader in the House. The NPF  issued a whip to all its 47 legislators to vote in favor, severing ties with the BJP, with which it has been associated for decades.

The governor had directed Zeliang to prove his majority in the Assembly by 22 July.
