Kohima: The Nagaland government will focus on skill development and job creation through agriculture and allied sectors to eradicate poverty by 2030, with the government planning to explore various financial sources including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. According to a vision document, the Neiphiu Rio government will focus on externally aided projects, public-private partnership initiatives and loans through dialogue with funding agencies to achieve the poverty alleviation goal, an official said.
The state government has recently unveiled "Nagaland SDG Vision 2030 Leaving No One Behind" which provides short, medium and long term strategies to achieve 17 specific goals including poverty alleviation. An estimated 18.88 percent of the people in Nagaland are living below the poverty line. He said that other strategies proposed for poverty alleviation in the state include employment generation through agriculture and allied sectors, skill development, strengthening the existing industrial base and rural development. The document also suggested the government to provide easy access to services such as food, health, education, housing and road connectivity, IT infrastructure and drinking water.
