The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) in Nagaland has temporarily halted its first-phase agitation calling for the formation of the Shamator district till further notice.

The resumption of operation of the Likimro Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as the entry of tourists or researchers to Mt. Saramati, Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, and the stone caves at Salomi and Mimi, would be allowed, according to YTC executive chairman Y Makezho. If the state government fails to fulfil the promise as soon as possible, the council has warned that it would restart its democratic agitation until justice is done.

Shamator is situated in Nagaland's Tuensang district. Since 2003, the council has asked that the Shamator extra deputy commissioner's office be raised to a district. It claimed to have given the state government many representations and reminder letters. The Nagaland government formed three more districts on December 18 last year, increasing the total number of districts in the state to 15. Tseminyu, Niuland, and Chumukedima are the three new districts.

Tseminyu district was created by dividing Kohima district, whereas Niuland and Chumukedima districts were created by splitting Dimapur district.
