After the arrest of Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Nahid Hasan in Kairana, his sister Iqra Hassan has filed for nomination. ICRA has filled one form with the symbol of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the other as an independent candidate.
Iqra has filed nominations as a precautionary measure. If Nahid's nomination is cancelled in any case or he is not able to fight, he will be replaced by the Iqra SP candidate. Though Nahid Hasan's ticket has not yet been cut, he himself has not been removed from the fray. The SP has fielded Nahid as its candidate from the Kairana seat in the Shamli district and Nahid Hasan had filed his nomination on January 14. Nahid surrendered before the police in the Gangster Act on January 15. But his candidature was questioned because he already has several criminal cases registered against him.
He is also facing a case of cheating in the case of buying land. A special court in Shamli has declared Nahid Hasan as a fugitive. It is also alleged that Nahid Hasan of the SP has also played a major role in the exodus of Hindus from Kairana. After Nahid's arrest, there was talk of his ticket being cut. Akhilesh Yadav had also replied to a question that if Nahid Hasan could not contest, he would be replaced by his family member.
