Chennai: Nalini Sriharan, convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has been out of jail on a month's parole. Nalini has been released from Vellore Central Jail on a month-long simple parole to arrange her daughter's wedding.

Madras High Court granted parole to Nalini on July 5. The court has stipulated that she will remain in the welsower during the period and will not talk to the media and any leaders. On the orange side, Nalini, surrounded by police in a red silk sari, came out of the jail where her mother was waiting for her.

Earlier last year, Nalini received a one-day parole for the last darshan of her father's demise in Chennai. Nalini's daughter lives in London. For Parole, Nalini had said that every convict is entitled to a simple leave of one month after a two-year jail term but has not taken a leave even once in the past 27 years.

Nalini, who has been in jail for a long time, is facing life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Nalini had asked for a six-month parole but got only one month's parole. The Madras High Court has also dismissed a petition filed by Nalini Sriharan. Nalini had sought the release of all the convicts on the basis of the Tamil Nadu government's 2018 judgement. On the other hand, the High Court rejected Sriharan's plea saying that he cannot direct the Governor to take action.
