His affair with Nargis always remained in limelight.

As per some reports, Nargis also took legal recourse to marry Raj Kapoor. It is said that Nargis met a lawyer and wanted to know how to marry an already married man but as the time passes their relationship started affecting. Gradually, the gap of misunderstanding between the two started widening. Meanwhile, Nargis signed Mehboob Khan's film Mother India in the year 1957. Sunil Dutt was in this film and was playing his onscreen son. The shooting of the film was going on. Meanwhile, one day a fire broke out on the set. It is said that Sunil Dutt had saved Nargis' life from this fire by risking his own life. While shooting for the film their love story started and they got married within a year.
