Bhopal: Social activist and leader of Narmada Bachao Andolan, Medha Patkar has broken her fast. This fast was going on for nine days. After receiving assurances from the government, Patkar broke off after agreeing with her fellow protestors. CM Kamal Nath had sent former Chief Secretary of State Sharad Chandra Behar as his envoy to Barwani to talk to Medha Patkar. Medha Patkar, the leader of the Narmada Bachao Andolan, has been on an indefinite fast for the last nine days and her health is not being reported properly.

Medha Patkar and her supporters were fasting since 25 August in Chhota Badta village, about 25 km from the district headquarters of Barwani, for the proper rehabilitation of the Sardar Sarovar Dam SSD constructed in Gujarat on the Narmada River, for the proper rehabilitation of the SSD's migrants and the villagers to release water from the dam's gate for relief from drowning. There has been an indefinite 'Satyagraha' movement. The village lies in the submerged area of the backwaters of SSD.

Along with this, CM Kamal Nath said in a statement issued in this case that I want to assure Medha Patkar and all the NBA colleagues that my government is committed to complete rehabilitation of drowned victims. He said that all claims and issues of drowning affected people will be resolved completely by setting up camp in village Narmada valley. Explain that there has been a long-standing opposition to the construction of a dam on the Narmada.
