On Tuesday, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram described the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill as unconstitutional and said that with the passage in Parliament, the battleground will now be shifted to the Supreme Court. He claimed that the elected MLAs were discharging their responsibilities in favor of lawyers and judges.

In his statement, P Chidambaram tweeted, "Elected MPs are discharging their responsibilities in favor of lawyers and judges. We are paying this price to give the majority to one party. It is treading the desires of the states and the people."
