As the first December date gets closer, Fastag sales are increasing for automatic electronic toll payments on highways. While only 25 thousand Fastags were being sold daily till October, the daily sales of Fastags have reached one lakh after the announcement of the government making Fastag mandatory from December 1 and making it available free by NHAI till then. By Tuesday evening, there were estimated to be around 70 lakh Fastag sales across the country. Meanwhile, NHAI has also requested banks to provide free fastag to encourage fastag.

Regarding the matter, an NHAI official said that NHAI started making arrangements for the free sale of fastag at its toll plazas and other points of sale after the direction of Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to provide free fastag. In order to get the fast for free, a person will have to submit a photograph of the front of the car in addition to the registration certificate of the vehicle. After taking the free fastag, it will either have to be recharged manually or linked to its bank account. After this, whenever you go through the toll plaza, the toll amount will be automatically deducted from your wallet or bank account and you will get information through SMS.
