Central Government's big order, onion prices can reach below Rs. 5

The central government of India has signed an additional 12,660 metric ton onion which will start arriving in India from December 27, 2019. With this, the total quantity of onion imported now has reached about 30,000 MT. 

In response to some other questions, Agriculture Minister Tomar said that the government is going to implement the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme by making it better in the interest of farmers. He said that the performance of the scheme has been satisfactory. 80 percent of the claims participating in the scheme have been paid. Tomar explained in detail the effects of climate change on farming. He said that the government is working towards reducing its effects, for which many schemes and research are being done.

Apart from this, on the benefit of the system that provides instant information to farmers about the weather, Tomar said that more than four crore farmers of the country are being provided information through SMS on their mobiles. Many advanced species have been developed to suit the changing season. Earlier, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan accused the government of working in the interest of traders rather than farmers. He said that poverty has doubled during the tenure of the NDA government.
