New Delhi: The Meteorological Department has released the figures of rain across the country in August. According to the department, there have been more than average rainfall in August. According to data from the India Meteorological Department, the rainfall during the month of August was 15 percent more than the average. This is the second consecutive month when the country received above-average rainfall. In July, it received 109 percent of the long-term average, while in August it reached 115 percent. However, in the month of June, only 87 percent of the rainfall was received against the long-term average.

The long-term average rainfall in the country is currently 89 cm. This is the average of the rainfall during the season from 1951 to 2000. In August, the country received  22 percent received excess rainfall. 20 percent is considered normal, while 29 percent is deficient. The South and Central divisions of the Meteorological Department found that there was 56 and 39 percent more rainfall respectively than the average. The South Division consists of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Karnataka and Kerala have received excessive rainfall. There are 10 subdivisions in the Central India Division. These include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat received heavy rains during August, causing floods here. The eastern and northeast divisions received 38 percent of the average during August, while the north-west division received one percent less rainfall. Let me tell you that due to heavy rains many parts of the country were hit by severe floods.
