Newly elected Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who arrived here on a three-day official visit on Friday, will discuss strengthening bilateral relations in key areas with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rajapaksa reached the national capital on Thursday. This is his first foreign trip since taking over as president. He was welcomed by Union Minister VK Singh.

According to media reports, the President of Sri Lanka has arrived here with a high-level delegation, which includes Foreign Secretary Ravinath Aryasinh and Treasury Secretary SR Attigale. On Friday, Rajapaksa will attend a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and garland at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat. After talks at Hyderabad House, PM Modi and Rajapaksa will issue press statements on their behalf. Later Sri Lankan leaders will also meet Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and President Ram Nath Kovind. He is also expected to attend an event in Delhi on Saturday. Later in the evening, Rajapaksa will leave for Sri Lanka.
