Patnaik government's help to Missionaries of Charity, Rs 78.76 lakh given

Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has assisted the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) to help 13 institutions run by the Missionaries of Charity. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) issued a statement on Tuesday (January 4, 2021) saying, "Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 78.76 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) as assistance to the Missionaries of Charity (MoC).''

According to media reports, CMO said the help is for missionaries of charity (MoC) institutions operating in eight districts of the state. The decision will benefit more than 900 leprosy (Leprosariums) and orphanages (Orphanages). It may be recalled that recently Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had directed district collectors to be in regular touch with the organizations run by the Missionaries of Charity set up by Mother Teresa, while the Home Ministry refused to allow the renewal of the Missionaries of Charity's Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

Even then, today Naveen Patnaik used the funds of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) to help the organisations run by the Missionaries of Charity set up by Mother Teresa. The Union Home Ministry had recently informed that the missionaries of charity's application for renewal of registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act has been rejected on December 25 for not fulfilling certain eligibility conditions.
