Nayanthara’s metamorphosis from an actor into ‘lady Superstar’ is nothing short of a phenomenon. She prefers to stay away from the media glare. She isn’t on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. She doesn’t give interviews to the press. She’s rarely seen at parties or gatherings, except for the odd appearances at award functions. Yet, She is one of the most celebrated actors in South India, and one of the highest paid women celebrities in the country. After she breaks from cinema for two years in 2011, her fan base in the south has only increased, and her roles in films like Kolamaavu Kokila and Raja Rani have rightly earned her the title Lady Superstar.

2007 marked the first big transformation in Nayanthara's career, as though she had donned glamorous roles earlier, she made a stunning turnaround in an ultra stylish and hot avatar in Billa, physically transforming herself as well, in stark contrast to her look of Ayya, Ghajini times. Nayanthara began her career as a part-time model in college. Her acting debut was in the Malayalam film Manassinakkare, with Jayaram, directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. It released in 2003 and became a commercial hit. Her Tamil debut in 2005 was in director Hari’s Ayya, starring Sarathkumar as the lead. The 2006 film Lakshmi, by director VV Vinayak, was her Telugu debut, and the 2010 film Super by Upendra a Telugu-Kannada bilingual, was her first Kannada film.

the path to stardom wasn't easy for Nayanthara, as she had always been targeted and subjected to controversies -  be it her relationship with Simbu, or Prabhu Deva's entry and exit from her life,  the lesser she spoke on her personal life, the bigger it was projected on media, and at a point, the actress had even decided to bid goodbye to films with Sri Rama Rajyam, but came over the losses and pains, and decided to return.

She has truly lived up to the tag of Lady Superstar, as she can alternate between playing a typical commercial film heroine as in Velaikkaran, or a powerful collector of Aramm. She gets to do what she feels right on the screen, be it the kind of roles or the level of glamour - she is the supreme as nothing can be imposed on her by anyone except herself.

Recently, the Lady Superstar arrives on screens in dual avatars as the bold and beautiful Yamuna and the mysterious Bhavani, sporting a new look, in Airaa, which promises to scare you. From Ayya to Airaa, it has been quite a bumpy ride to the top, but the milestones she has achieved with the recognition and quality films delivered, overshadow everything else that was attempted at pulling her down. Yet again, it looks like she's got quality, a potential winner in hands, so get ready to witness the ultimate entertainer on screens, in Airaa!
