Mumbai: Former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Majeed Memon, in a big statement on Tuesday, said that the head of "secular democracy" should refrain from encouraging activities of any particular religion. Memon's statement came in the context of calling Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray at the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Poojan program in Ayodhya.

Significantly, the Bhoomi Poojan program for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, is to be held on August 5 and it is expected that PM Modi will reach it. Memon tweeted,  "Uddhav Thackeray is among those invited for Bhoomi Poojan of Ram temple. He can join it in his personal capacity, respecting the restrictions imposed due to Corona. The head of democracy should refrain from promoting activities of any particular religion. "

Shiv Sena, which has advocated the construction of Ram temple for more than three decades, formed a government in Maharashtra last year in alliance with NCP and Congress. Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday claimed that his party cleared the way for the Ram temple in Ayodhya and removed the bottlenecks in temple construction. This was done for Hindutva and not for politics.
