Meerut: On Saturday, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) showcased the advanced features of the Meerut Metro, a groundbreaking urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), at the RRTS Depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad. This metro system, designed to transform transportation in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, promises to offer a safe, efficient, and modern mobility solution for residents.

Shalabh Goel, Managing Director of NCRTC, emphasized the metro’s potential to revolutionize city transport by enhancing connectivity and quality of life. He noted that the integration of Meerut Metro with the existing RRTS infrastructure from Meerut South to Modipuram will facilitate a seamless public transit experience. This strategic integration at four key stations—Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—will enable commuters to switch between the metro and Namo Bharat train services, saving on infrastructure costs.

The Meerut Metro corridor will cover 23 kilometers with 13 stations, including 18 kilometers of elevated and 5 kilometers of underground sections. The trains, designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic, will travel at speeds of up to 120 kmph, offering efficient service within 30 minutes. The metro features comfortable, air-conditioned coaches equipped with modern conveniences such as USB charging, dynamic route maps, and safety measures including platform screen doors and emergency communication systems. All trainsets, manufactured under the Make in India initiative by M/s Alstom, are set to be delivered by 2025, aligning with the broader Regional Rapid Transit System project.
