Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra was on Monday honoured with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian honour. Chopra, a 24-year-old javelin thrower, has been conferred with the honour by President Ram Nath Kovind at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Badminton player Pramod Bhagat, who won a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, has also been conferred the honour along with Chopra. Â
Chopra had won India its first Olympic gold in the track and field event at the Tokyo Olympics. He became the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win a gold in the individual event. Bhagat is the first Indian to win gold in para-badminton. He had won the yellow medal in the men's singles SL3 category. Â Â
