Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has been included in India's 37-member athletics contingent for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) gave this information. AFI President Adil Sumariwala has said that he has full faith in the team and will do well in these games. Three javelin throwers have also been included in the team in the form of Neeraj Chopra, DP Manu and Rohit Yadav. Along with this, three triple jump players in the form of Abdullah Abubakar, Praveen Chitrawal and Eldhoz Paul have made a place in the team.
Sumariwala has said that we are requesting the Indian Olympic Association that our quota is going to be increased one by one and help get recognition for some athletes. We have also selected a few subjects to prove their fitness and form before the Games. He said shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor has to perform well in Kazakhstan, while Amoz Jacob has been selected on the basis of his recovery and fitness level.
Similarly, discus throwers Navjit Kaur Dhillon and Seema Antil Punia as well as hammer thrower Sarita Singh will have to perform in Kazakhstan or California. Race walker Bhavna Jat will have to prove her fitness.
