THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to permit the impacted medical aspirants to retake the exam if they like on September 4 in response to complaints that girls were made to remove their underwear at a NEET testing location in Kerala's Kollam.

The Kerala Police detained seven people in connection with the incident from the previous month, which had caused a tremendous uproar. They were shortly granted bail and released.

Parents of the girls protested the invigilators' "inhuman act" by saying their daughters were "completely distraught," which affected their performance.

Consequent to this, a three-person team of NEET authorities conducted an investigation into the incident and provided a report on the mental suffering the girls had to endure. The testing authorities made the decision to re-examine only the impacted girls at a new centre in the Kollam area based on the findings.

The vice principal of the Mar Thoma Institute of IT (the institution where the exam was administered last month), Priji Kurian Issac, the director of the NEET exam centre, and Dr. Shamnad, an NTA observer, were all subsequently detained.

Two women staff members of the college and three others of the testing agency - Star Training Academy were also among those arrested.

They were accused of violating Section 354 of the IPC (assault or use of force on a lady with the purpose to violate her modesty) and Section 509 of the IPC (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
