NEET UG 2024 Result: NTA Clarifies Marks Controversy

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET UG 2024 results on June 4, revealing that 67 candidates achieved the All India Rank (AIR) 1 with a percentile score of 99.997129. However, the announcement sparked confusion and debate among students and teachers about the scores, particularly the possibility of scoring 718 marks. Many claimed that after 720, the next possible score should be 716, making 718 seemingly impossible.

In response to these concerns, the NTA provided a detailed explanation. The agency clarified that candidates who experienced time loss during the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG 2024) were awarded grace marks to compensate for the disruption.

The NTA received multiple representations and court cases from candidates who faced issues during the examination held on May 5, 2024. These representations were reviewed, and the NTA implemented a normalization formula endorsed by the Supreme Court in its judgment dated June 13, 2018. This formula was used to address the loss of examination time.

"The loss of examination time was ascertained, and affected candidates were compensated with grace marks. Therefore, it is possible for candidates to have scores like 718 or 719," the NTA explained in their statement.
